Medical Conditions that promote Weight Gain
Weight loss is not always easy. Especially when you have a medical condition that causes you to gain weight even though you are trying diligently to lose weight
Low Thyroid
Low thyroid activity may lower your metabolism not allowing you to burn fat normally. If you suspect this is the case, consult a physician. Some people find relief from from doing the "Five Tibetan" exersizes to help balance their hormones
Pain
Being in pain speaks for itself. Chronic pain will block your desire to exercise and keep healthy. If you are using food as a source of pain relief then you should look at an alternative. Again, see your doctor.
Low Blood Sugar
Low blood sugar will cause you to binge eat. That is the sudden feeling of being 'empty' and needing to fill that void. You may crave sweet foods when you have low blood sugar. Eating plenty of protein and fat at meal times will help with your low blood sugar.
Diabetes
Almost 70% of adults who have diabetes are over-weight. Unfortunately this is common with diabetes. It is also Known as Adult Onset Diabetes because it is often developed in your adulthood. And being overweight to begin with does not help.
Birth Control Pills
Taking birth control pills will cause you to gain weight. Not always a lot and not always a little. Talking to your doctor about your hormone levels and your needs may give you insight into your weight gain. More problematic types of birth control are the shots and the '3 month' systems. You will gain weight on them and you should consider if it is worth it. Find and alternative if possible.
Medications
If you are taking steroids as found in asthma inhalers you could be setting yourself up for weight gain. Other medications like anti seizure drugs or psychotropic drugs may actually cause you to lose weight. However, drugs like Depakote can cause weight gain.
H.R.T. - Hormone Replacement Therapy
A side effect of H.R.T. is, oddly enough... weight gain. You might be able to get your doctor to add Testosterone to your Hormone Replacement Therapy to aid in weight loss. A side effect of testosterone is an increased sex drive.
